Heavy rain in Delhi during rush hour, crippling traffic jams

Several parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) received a fresh spell of heavy rain on Tuesday evening, bringing relief from the sultry conditions.
The rain also resulted in traffic jams in various parts of Delhi and NCR, including Noida and Gurgaon.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday in Delhi due to the influence of a depression caused as an aftermath of Cyclone Yagi, which is moving northwestwards from Jharkhand. It issued a yellow alert for Wednesday.
Delhi today recorded a maximum temperature of 34.8 degrees Celsius, a degree above normal and the minimum temperature was 24.4 degrees Celsius, a degree below normal.
The national capital exceeded both its annual and seasonal average rainfall in early September, with total rainfall crossing the 1,000 mm mark.
The IMD advised residents in Delhi to take caution as rain might cause slippery roads, reduced visibility and potential flooding in low-lying areas.
The weather body said that the low-pressure area will pass through Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, before entering Delhi. It issued an orange alert for heavy rain in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh for Tuesday.
It advised the residents of these regions to be prepared for possible disruptions due to intense rainfall, which could include waterlogging and disruptions in traffic.
